With the start of the development of the 3-MW technology sat W2E 2011 already trends in the market. Together with Siemens AG, a collaboration was signed providing for the application of a compact, medium-speed gearbox-generator unit, the hybrid drive.
Within a short time the experienced W2E team was two prototypes with a rotor diameter of 120 m near Rostock build on the wind test field in Kankel and operate.
At the international trade fair Wind Energy Hamburg 2014, the TÜV Nord will present the A-Design Assessment of W2E.
This is the 3 MW Technology ready for the market. Project developers plan this technology already in their projects and licensees start of series production.
The 3-MW turbines fully comply with all requirements of Germanischer Lloyd in his 2010 edition Likewise, German and international grid codes are met.
The development was supported by the project partners Department of Engineering Mechanics / Dynamics at the University of Rostock and the entire project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy pursuant to a decision of the German Bundestag.

The W2E Wind to Energy GmbH develops complete wind turbines in the multi-megawatt class, these systems can be certified and accompanied the operation of prototypes . W2E initiates, manages and leads all relevant areas of development phases independently. These house services include concept development, the construction of machine elements, dynamic simulations, load calculations, FEM, management and control and the design and specification of electrical systems.

The W2E Wind to Energy GmbH was founded in May 2003. The number of employees has increased from 7 to 32. The portfolio includes wind turbines with 1.3 MW, 2.0 MW, 2.5 MW and 3 MW.
