New Network hypervisor takes over key function in reality-oriented testing network

San Francisco, California, USA. 17 September 2014 ADVA Optical Networking today announced that the company has a key role in the world conducted demonstration of Software Defined Networking (SDN) for transport networks. The interoperability requirements of the test structure were jointly by the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) and the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) developed and verified in a joint test of network operators in the United States, Europe and China. The demonstration shows how one is focused on the provision of infrastructure services can be implemented with the SDN technology. ADVA Optical Networking demonstrated with reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers (ROADM) the FSP 3000 platform in conjunction with the new Network Hypervisor how flexible future SDN-based networks will be.

“We were the first to SDN inserting in the optical network. And we were the first ones constitute clear what potential this technology has the power and how it a new era of possibilities is introduced, “said Christoph glingener, CTO at ADVA Optical Networking. “That’s why we work with OIF and ONF closely., We can draw on our experience with SDN in the transport network and demonstrate network operators more advantages of this technology. Meaning of this demonstration lies in the spatial dimensions of the interconnection of networks and the extensive evidence of interoperability. The industry operates in the development of programmable networks closely together and creates the necessary standards, the requirement for high performance and ease of use. Their test results will pave the way for the gradual introduction of networks, where provision of services is at the heart level, creating new business models are possible. “

In this global demonstration of transport SDN ADVA Optical Networking is the new technology of network hypervisor, which is a critical component in the transition to programmable networks for the first time. Network operators can segment their network logically and assign different customers private, virtual network. With these new opportunities existing operating models will be replaced, and there are advantages in several areas: falling operating costs, reduced deployment times and therefore better efficiency of network services. For many years, operators are looking for ways to achieve this goal. The OIF and ONF demonstration of interoperability makes it clear what is possible with this technology.

“The transition to networks, where provision of services is the focus will be sought from operators for a long time, because at the same time savings and additional new business models are created, “commented Ulrich Kohn, Director of Technical Marketing at ADVA Optical Networking. “To be successful, operators and operators and vendors from all over the world have to rely on the new technology in every respect. And manufacturers must be able to provide compliant technology. Hence, this demonstration of OIF and ONF is so important. Working together to provide through an interconnection of networks interoperability to the test and to develop a common roadmap for the future. The results of these tests clearly show where we stand today and what further steps we are opening up the far-reaching possibilities of transport SDN can. ” Presentation material for ADVA Network Hypervisor is available at: http://adva.li/hyper.

2014 Global Transport SDN SDN demonstration is with Network Function Virtualization (NFV) shape the future of telecommunications in the interaction.. Networks are dynamically adapted to the requirements of applications and services. The participating OIF and ONF-members can reveal how operators can use transport-SDN in their networks. The tests are carried out in the laboratories of operators from North America, Europe and Asia. They will draw the results of the technical working groups of both forums effectively and benefit from the support of OIF and ONF members from the group of network operators. The two groups have the rapid introduction of technologies OpenFlow and SDN transportation prescribed in order to provide better programmability of networks and usher in a new era of dynamic services. In October results will be presented at regional events and there is a white paper published. More information can be found on www.oiforum.com
