China plans its first moon landing this Saturday. As it was informed Chinese circles in Peking, to the spaceship “Chang’e 3″ approximately at 21.10 local time (14.10 clock CET) with the ten minute maneuver to land in the “Bay of the Rainbow” (Sinus Iridium) begin.

The landing site is considered one of the most beautiful lunar landscapes. After the United States and the former Soviet Union, China would thus become the third nation that has made a lunar landing. Officially the landing date has not yet been announced.

Finally, the Soviet Union “24 Luna” a moon landing had 37 years ago in August 1976 made. “Chang’e 3″ currently flies in an elliptical orbit around the Moon, coming at the shortest point up to 15 kilometers of the surface approach.

The spacecraft is named after the Chinese Lunar Fairy “Chang’e” squatting according to legend, a white hare on the moon. In an online survey three million Chinese had the lunar rover, which is located on board the spaceship, the tradition according to “Jadehase” (Yutu) called.

The 140-pound, six-wheeled rover will explore for three months, the surface of the moon. Only when future moon flights until 2017 also a return with rock samples is planned to Earth.

So far most difficult unmanned mission

“Chang’e 3″ was 2 Started in December from space center in Xichang in Sichuan Province to his journey. The moon landing is considered by experts as the most difficult unmanned projects of the ambitious Chinese space program. More than 80 percent of the required technology is used for the first time.

“Chang’e 3″ is different from previous Lunar Lander of the U.S. and the Soviet Union can hover about 100 feet above the surface to avoid obstacles and to be able to choose the suitable place to land how Chinese experts signposted. The four-legged spacecraft is equipped with precise and fast-responding sensors to analyze movement and environment.

Esa supports communication with “Chang’e 3″

The European Space Agency (Esa) supports communication with “Chang’e 3″ through its ground station in Kourou, French Guiana. Also precise location measurement of the Esa-checkpoints in the Spanish Cebreros and Australian New Norcia with its 35-meter antennas are supplied. The satellite control center in Darmstadt, where Chinese engineers also participate in for the flight controls all activities.

“Whether manned or robotic missions, such international cooperation is necessary for the future exploration of planets, moons and asteroids, and use of the general public,” said the former German astronaut and Today’s space flight director Thomas Reiter.

China wants taikonauts send to the moon

China’s space program controls the landing and the moon vehicle itself on its stations in Kashi in the outer western China and in the northeastern Jiamusi.

The most ambitious project of the Chinese Space is the posting of a taikonauts how astronauts are called in China, to the moon. A target date for this are not yet available. However, the moon flights are only a part of the Chinese space program.

Until 2020 auchder construction of a space station is planned, which may likely be the only manned outpost in space with the expiry of the International Space Station. With a satellite network China is also building a global navigation system. 2003, China had first placed a taikonauts into space.
