Fendt employs fan technology of Voith – PresseBox (Press release)

Voith provides fans for the world’s most powerful standard tractor
energy requirement of the fan more than 50 percent reduced
Compact design improves the driver’s sight line

As of September, the first major series of new large tractor 1000 Vario from Fendt delivered. Its innovative cooling system based on the first fan technology of Voith. Originally from the railway industry, Voith is a global leader in developing efficient cooling systems. This expertise comes in future into the most standard tractor in the world (up to 500 hp). The Voith fan is decoupled by a separate hydraulic motor from the engine speed, saving over standard components over half the energy or fuel consumption.

High Performance Fans paves the way for new cooling concept

The industry’s first met Fendt, with its newly developed Concentric Air System (CAS) and in terms of the cooling technology the highest technological demands. Basis of the CAS is developed by Voith fan, which is placed in a pressing arrangement against heat exchangers and engine. Thus, cold air is sucked with a higher density from outside of the vehicle and compressed by the high aerodynamic efficiency even further. This increases the pressure over the hitherto conventional tractors absorbent arrangement where the fan is positioned directly in front of the engine, and allows an enormous flow of up to 7m³ / s.

In large cooling packages the CAS can significantly compactly designed, whereby the entire system migrates closer to the driver’s cab. The shorter and more streamlined hood expands the driver’s line of sight on the terrain lying ahead. At the same time increases by an improved steering the maneuverability of the vehicle.

On average, the new Voith fan requires a drive power of 8 kW, less than half of a standard fan. As an overall system, the CAS reduces consumption by up to 70 percent.

Optimum cooling capacity through individual interpretation

The fan has its own hydrostatic drive, so it provides always the required cooling capacity, regardless of the engine speed. With CFD simulations, the development team of Voith put out the blade geometry according to the individual operating parameters of the 1000 Vario. In addition, the team Fendt also in vehicle design and construction in the hood support to achieve optimum air flow.

The series assembly of the unit takes place in Heidenheim. Here Voith has set up on the existing structures for mounting its cooling systems for rail vehicles, a new line of commercial vehicle fans.

damper protects the drivetrain

While Voith with its fan-technology new to the field of Agriculture and specialized vehicles einsteigt, the vibration damper Hydro- is already firmly established in the industry. In 1000 Fendt Vario he reduced before Vario transmission critical torsional vibrations of the engine and shifted resonant frequencies in non-critical speed ranges. This prolongs the life of all components in the drive train and increases availability. In addition, the Hydrodamp enables the vehicle lower speeds, which further reduce fuel consumption
