The privately held company Epic Polymers, headquartered in Kaiserslautern has developed an innovative technology to gain high performance thermoplastic polymers with long fibers. Demand and growth of technologically advanced, tailor-made materials with superior mechanical and thermal properties, high impact resistance, stiffness and strength at elevated temperatures are driven by the demands for further progress in reducing the fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions .
“The availability of this technology represents a significant expansion of our broad portfolio of both light and extremely powerful materials,” says Augusto Di Donfrancesco, President of the Business Unit Specialty Polymers at Solvay. “It allows us to supply customers specialized in our core business of the automotive industry material solutions for large semi-structural elements and to develop the required expertise to our main polymers the LFT technology – including KetaSpire PEEK and AvaSpire PAEK – apply and more opportunities for metal replacement to tap into other markets, such as in the transport sector. “
