DARMSTADT – The Bundestag deputy Brigitte Zypries (SPD) has welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, a “medium-sized 4.0-Competence Center” in to build Darmstadt. The center is to be focal point for small and medium businesses with questions about digital technology and industry 4.0. It is part of the new funding initiative “SME 4.0 – Digital production and work processes”. “That Darmstadt one of five nationwide locations (…) is, is great news for the region and shows that the city in all matters of digitization is far ahead,” said Zypries was pleased. The “SME 4.0 Competence Centre” to advise the companies in the digital transformation and to assist them in developing new business. Especially for machine networking and digitization is the challenge of the future. “Here, companies must be from the very beginning on the amount of time in order not to lose its leading position. With the new center of excellence the company get in the region now an accompaniment on site which will guide you through the new task field and gives assistance” Zypries said. Zypries congratulated the Darmstadt Technical University Professor Reiner Anderl of successful bid. “This contract award is the reward for an exemplary collaboration between the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Fraunhofer Institutes and the chambers.” The competence center is to be established under the direction of the Technical University Institute for Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools in conjunction with the Fraunhofer Institutes for Structural Durability and System Reliability and for Secure Information Technology, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main.
