The EU will cooperate in the development of the upcoming mobile radio standards 5G with China. As is known, the European Commission announced in a press statement, Günther Oettinger, the European Commissioner for the digital economy and society, and Miao Wei, the Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology, on Monday signed an Agreement
The agreement is of great importance, since China is likely to become a major player in the development of 5G networks and potentially also the world’s largest market for represents 5G technologies, products and services. In addition, the 5G technology as an important component of the EU plans to digitize and thus the cornerstone of the EU market with a volume of three billion euros.
With the Horizon 2020 program, the European Commission invested 700 million euros in the research and innovation funding in connection with 5G. Already at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 presented by the European Commission and the European technology industry, how the EU imagines the future of 5G technology and infrastructure. This ambitious strategy and the agreement with China gives the EU a strong voice in the next phase of 5G talks on an international level.
