2 SmartWatch from Sony has a much flatter and more compact housing than the recently unveiled Galaxy Clock Gear from Samsung. A frame around the display is mounted in brushed aluminum, the top is made entirely of glass. The bracelet is made of rubber, but there should also be a metal band. Overall, the clock is very well made and nobler than the competing product from Samsung.

LCD touchscreen SmartWatch 2 is somewhat smaller than the Galaxy Gear at 1.6 inches and has 220 times 176 pixels with a lower resolution. This is noticeable. Screen contents appear on the SmartWatch 2 much less crisp and clear than on Samsung’s model

In sleep mode, the SmartWatch 2 shows the time. This also works if it is not coupled to a smartphone. Once the user presses the power button, the time will be brighter, a further pressure gives the home screen. There you can find the installed apps.

If the SmartWatch 2 connected to a smartphone, including incoming SMS messages, e-mails, update Facebook or Twitter status messages are displayed. The connection is via Bluetooth and can also be established via NFC.

a special app for the smartphone can be installed as in the previous smartwatch by Sony additional apps such as weather or news timer. These are available in Google’s Play Store ready and do not come directly from Sony.

No real phone function

phone users can only indirectly with the SmartWatch 2 as with the previous Sony smartwatch. Although calls can be accepted on the clock, the voice output and input is not via the device itself in order to make calls without taking your phone out of your pocket, a headset must be connected. Samsung Galaxy Gear, however, makes phone calls directly through the clock.

A camera as in the Galaxy Gear does not exist in Sony’s SmartWatch. However, earlier models had apps that let the camera connected smartphones could be controlled. The viewfinder image is then displayed on the clock. Whether this is possible with the new model, we could not verify.

SmartWatch 2 is built according to the IP57 standard and thus dust resistant and protected against temporary immersion. Up to 30 minutes to the clock withstand a maximum depth of one meter without taking damage. This function also has a built-Z already with other new Xperia smartphones and the Xperia Sony Tablet.
