Good news for many RSS users: The popular Google Reader Feedly replacement announces that he takes over the supply of feeds for some popular RSS apps when Google’s Reader on 1 July sets.
In a few weeks, Google’s RSS reader turns off the juice, and many other readers and apps that are fed with feeds about him, then also no longer work because they are really just an extended arm of Google Reader. You assume the users subscribed feeds via an application programming interface (API), by Google.
The popular alternative Reader Feedly works that way, but its makers have announced that the Google Reader API to clone (project “Normandy”) and on 1 July convert on their service. The users would remember them virtually nothing for them, the transition was seamless.
Initially five apps in Feedlys RSS Ark
But Feedly goes one step further: It is also used for some popular apps – for free – take over the job of Google and ensure their supply of RSS feeds. For now belong to the new Feedly customers the apps Reeder (iOS, Mac), gReader (Android), Press (Android), Nextgen (Windows Phone / Windows 8) and Newsify (iOS).
A total of 100 developers have made inquiries to Feedly, according to a blog entry. One regret that I have not included all the apps in the Normandy project, but already working hard to add more candidates in the next step.
Paid version planned
More about
far Feedly is still basically free and ad-free. But on his info page, it means that there will soon be a paid and an expected (ad-supported) free offer.
To find out which type of financing preference users, Feedly has conducted a survey and is also in the further development to the feedback of its customers. As a result, among other things Feedly increase the speed of his service, allow direct web access, develop apps for Windows Phone and Windows 8 and wants to create better opportunities for sharing.
